Gross payThe total on your rate con or settlement, before anything comes off it. Leave out money that only passes through you — a lumper reimbursement you already handed to the warehouse was never yours to keep.Of that gross, fuel surcharge and accessorialsFuel surcharge, detention, TONU, layover — the add-ons sitting on top of the linehaul rate. Leave it blank if the whole figure is linehaul. An honest dispatcher charges his percentage on the linehaul and leaves these alone, so whatever you enter here comes out of the dispatch fee base below. Industry range runs 5–10% — Fortuna doesn’t publish one number here on purpose, because yours should come from your own agreement, not a guess.Factoring fee (leave blank if you don’t factor)Separate from the dispatch fee, and optional. A factoring company pays you most of an invoice up front — commonly 90–97% of it — instead of you waiting on the broker, and keeps 1–5% for that. Longer explanation in the terms glossary.Fixed costs this periodTruck and trailer payment, insurance, ELD subscription, permits and plates. These are monthly bills, so scale them to the period you picked above: for a week, divide the monthly total by about 4.3; for one load, divide it by the number of loads you run in a typical month.Variable costs, per mileMaintenance, tires, tolls and scales. 0.31 is an industry average — your own number from your receipts is better.

Set aside a self-employment tax reserve14% of what’s left, based on the IRS self-employment tax rate. Federal and state income tax on top of that depend on your bracket and aren’t included here.
