Know the job before you can judge someone doing it
What a truck dispatcher actually does comes down to this: finding and booking loads that match your equipment and lane preferences, negotiating rate instead of accepting the first offer that comes in, handling rate confirmations and broker paperwork, and chasing detention, TONU, and layover pay you’re actually owed. Ask the person on the phone to describe what they’ll do for you, in their own words. A real answer sounds like a list of specific tasks. A vague “we handle everything, don’t worry about it” isn’t an answer. It’s a sentence built to end the question rather than answer it.
